This is my last week for the Marketing class I’m taking and I’ll be grateful for the week break that follows it. There are only two classes that don’t feel relevant to my goals and this was one of them. The other is IT Management which I already have an entire degree in. Oh well, easy A!
Okay, science time! Today is a supermoon - a Blue Moon to be exact. I love how the media always blows up about this and everyone expects the moon to actually be the color blue. No people. A moon phase takes 29.5 days to complete which is 354 days to complete 12 lunar cycles. So approximately every 2.5 years there is a 13th full moon.
Now in this case, this is a seasonal blue moon, which is the 3rd full moon in a single season. This is the traditional definition. The alternate (and wrong) definition is when there is a 2nd full moon in a calendar month..
According to Britannica In the 16th century, if someone said the moon was blue, it meant that something was impossible. This is akin to our more modern expression of “when pigs fly.” Oddly enough, though, following the Krakatoa volcano eruption in Indonesia in 1883, some people reported seeing a moon that actually did appear blue, so the meaning changed from impossible to rare.
Okay, that’s enough fun facts for today! Get out and see the moon tonight if you can! Even if it isn’t actually blue, it’s always enchanting to see the full moon. Make some blue moon water and recharge your crystals while you’re at it!
